The Life and Story of a Faithful Servant of the Lord - Susan Ladd’s Biography
The Early Years
This dynamic woman was born in Bristol Tennessee, growing up in quite a musical family, her cousin being the late Country Music and television legend Tennessee Ernie Ford. An accomplished pianist, Susan grew up playing and singing music nearly every day. By her late teens, she was appearing as a featured vocalist with Charlie Goodwin's Big Band at the Bristol Country Club.
Susan went on to be a popular featured vocalist with several big bands, playing such impressive venues like Hotel Del Coronado, Hobart Arena, Governor Don Sundquist's Inaugural Ball at Opryland Hotel, and the Islandia Resort Hotel. She has toured the world with many major artists including Tennessee Ernie Ford, Roy Acuff, Barbara Mandrell, Conway Twitty, Faron Young, Tammy Wynette, and George Benson.
She toured as a solo artist in Asia, specifically in Okinawa, Tokyo, and Taipei. Susan also performed for royalty and dignitaries around the world. She spent two years as lead and backup vocals while touring with country music legend Bill Anderson Show.
Susan is no stranger to television appearing on Hee-Haw, Pop Goes the Country, Mike Douglas Show, and hosting a weekly Variety show on WCYB/NBC.
As a songwriter, she is an accomplished arranger, has been nominated for a Clio Award, and was signed by Buddy Killen as a staff songwriter for the famed Nashville, TN-based publishing house Tree International. She has had songs recorded in several different genres, including gospel, country, pop, and big band. Susan also has the distinction of having a multimedia presentation featuring her body of work in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 2014, Susan began broadcasting a pre-recorded radio show called "Some Thru The Fire" on WKQA Radio in Norfolk Virginia. Still running strong today, Susan spreads the Holy Scripture and her Christian faith around the world through the station, as well as a popular podcast on Facebook, YouTube, and other social media.
On December 9, 2020 Susan Ladd launched the BGM Life Network, a 24/7 Christian internet radio network presented by Bristol Girl Music/BMI (Susan's music publishing company. Programming includes a variety of offerings including Susan's own successful "Some Thru The Fire", as well as several music shows, teaching, bible study, talk and a lot of special presentations. God blessed the endeavor and BGM Life Network has an ever growing worldwide audience.
Today, Susan continues to write and arrange music. Aside from being the owner of Bristol Girl Music, she also currently has several other business ventures. Susan also performs with her 17-piece band—Susan Ladd & Big Band Ballroom where she arranges her own orchestration. Susan is a lifetime member of the local union and is a big supporter of hiring all AFM musicians.
The world of Susan Ladd keeps evolving, you never know what's waiting in the future for this talented lady; all we do know is whatever it is will be done with class!
